Which hotel rates you can cancel if your gig is off
The cheapest room is usually the one you can't cancel. If your gig is called off a week before, the difference between a Saver and a Flex rate is the difference between losing the whole night and losing nothing.
| Where | You can cancel for free | You can't get back |
|---|---|---|
| Travelodge | Flexible rate: until 12pm on your check-in day | Semi-Flex and the lowest rates |
| Premier Inn | Flex: until 1pm on arrival day. Semi-Flex: until 3 days before | Saver rates (refundable only within 24 hours of booking) |
| Booking.com | Rooms marked "Free cancellation", until the deadline in your confirmation | Rooms marked "Non-refundable" |
| Airbnb | Depends on the host's policy | Event cancellations aren't covered by Airbnb's own disruptive-events policy |
Is the flexible rate worth it?
Usually, for gigs. A flexible room typically costs more than the cheapest rate, but gigs can be cancelled or moved at short notice: half of the 2026 cancellations we tracked gave 30 days' notice or less. Paying a little more to be able to walk away is cheaper than losing the whole night.
Three habits that save money
- Note the deadline in your calendar when you book, not when the gig is cancelled.
- Book for the gig night only to start with. Add the extra night once the gig is close.
- Get an alert so you hear about a cancellation in time to cancel before the deadline.
