Utilita Arena Birmingham: hotels, trains and getting home

Birmingham's arena (the NIA, if you're old enough) sits on the canal at Brindleyplace, a good 20 minutes' walk west of New Street. The hotels worth booking are around Broad Street, not by the station.

Getting there by train

New Street is where most trains land. From there it's about 1.5km to the arena, so give it 20 minutes on foot. Five Ways, a smaller station, is about the same distance from the other side. Moor Street and Snow Hill are both 25 minutes' walk or so.

Coming by coach? Digbeth coach station is on the far side of town, about 2.5km away and more than half an hour on foot. The arena's own advice is to get a taxi.

Driving

There are three car parks on site: North, South and West. West is only for pre-booked and hospitality tickets, so book ahead if you want a space at all. Payment is cashless. The sat nav postcode is B1 2AA. The arena and its car parks are inside Birmingham's Clean Air Zone, so check whether your car is charged before you set off.

Where to stay

The hotels Google lists closest to the arena, by its own distances:

Looking for the closest Premier Inn? It's Broad Street. Whichever you pick, book a rate you can cancel. If the gig moves, a Saver rate is money gone. See which rates you can cancel.

Getting home

If you're heading for a train after the encore, check the last departure from New Street before you buy, and remember that 20-minute walk. An Off-Peak or Anytime ticket can be refunded up to the day before; an Advance can't. More in train and coach tickets if a gig moves.
